The challenge
Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby, Ohio wanted its congregation to read and listen to scripture daily as part of its Daily Rejoicing programme. The recordings existed — but as long, continuous source files no one could navigate to a specific book or chapter. Commercial audio platforms meant subscriptions, adverts, or surrendering control of the content, and for a church, the platform had to stay simple enough for every generation in the pews.
Our solution
We built an automated ffmpeg pipeline that split the source recordings into 1,189 files — one for every chapter of the Bible, Genesis to Revelation. Around it we designed a clean React web app pairing the full King James text with a persistent audio player: sidebar navigation by book, a chapter grid, and the church's own branding, responsive down to the oldest phone in the congregation. Audio is served from Cloudflare R2 edge storage, the app runs on Netlify, and the whole platform lives at bible.cbcshelby.com with HTTPS — linked directly from the church's website.
Results
Ten days after kickoff, the complete Bible — 66 books, 1,189 chapters — was one click away for every member, readable and listenable on any device. The platform runs on infrastructure deliberately engineered to be lightweight to operate, so the ministry can keep it online indefinitely, and the congregation reaches it straight from the church site under Daily Rejoicing.
